About this project
What does Better Mining add?
Better Mining
Craft a core, install it in your pickaxe, and choose how that pickaxe mines. Each pickaxe has one slot, so every core is a real choice.
Cores
Explosive Core
• Mining has a chance to cause a small explosion that breaks nearby blocks and drops their items.
• Mining ores charges an ability. When the HUD pulses, press the ability key (Q by default), and the next block you mine causes a blast twice as large.
Excavation Core
• Mines an area on every break. The area grows with your pickaxe's level.
• Crouch to mine a single block.
| Rock quality | Vanilla pickaxes | Area |
|---|---|---|
| 3 | Iron | 2x2 |
| 4 | Cobalt, Thorium | 3x3 |
| 5 | Adamantite | 4x4 |
| 6 | Mithril, Onyxium | 5x5 |
Crafting
Both cores are crafted at a level 2 Workbench.
Explosive Core: 6 Thorium Bars, 10 Fire Essence, 2 Medium Leather
Excavation Core: 6 Cobalt Bars, 10 Void Essence, 2 Heavy Leather
Hold a core and right-click to choose which pickaxe receives it. Replacing a core returns the old one to you, and resets that pickaxe's charge.
Balance
• Extra blocks use your pickaxe's durability.
• Effects only break rock, soil, and ore that your pickaxe could mine by itself. They skip bedrock, chests, doors, benches, furniture, and decoration, as well as the block holding up a chest.
• Charge and installed cores are saved in the pickaxe.
• In creative mode, the ability is always charged.
Pickaxes from other mods
Better Mining reads each tool's stats, so modded pickaxes should work with no setup. This is a beta and has not been tested with many mods yet. If a pickaxe is not detected, add its item ID to AllowedPickaxes, and please tell me about it in the comments
Config
Server owners can change these in mods/BetterMining_BetterMining/BetterMining.json:
| Setting | Default | What it does |
|---|---|---|
| RequireCore | true | When false, a pickaxe with an empty slot acts as Explosive |
| MinRockQuality | 3 | Lowest rock quality counted as a pickaxe |
| AllowedPickaxes | [] | Extra item IDs to treat as pickaxes |
| BreakableGatherTypes | Rocks, VolcanicRocks, Soils | What effects can break, along with all ores |
| ExplosionChance | 0.1 | Chance per mined block |
| ExplosionRadius | 1 | Blast radius; the ability doubles it |
| MaxCharge | 100 | Charge needed for the ability |
| ChargePerOre | 2 | Charge gained per ore |
| ExcavationSizes | [2, 3, 4, 5] | Area size by pickaxe level |
| DurabilityHitsPerExtraBlock | 4 | Mining hits of durability each extra block costs |
Updating from 1.0.1
Your config values are kept. With the default settings, pickaxes need a core to use their abilities. To keep the old behavior, set RequireCore to false.
Requires Hytale server 0.7.x.
