About this project
What does On Old Mountain Time add?
On Old Mountain Time
Live in a vanished Appalachian landscape and build a life from its forests.
On Old Mountain Time is a Fabric world-generation, woodworking, farming, and survival-building mod for Minecraft 26.1.2. It brings a historically inspired Southern Appalachian region into the normal Overworld and connects its ecology with hand-worked timber, regional crops, structures, furniture, and homestead construction.
Explore the Appalachian region
The first Alpha includes three connected landscapes.
Chestnut-Oak Ridge
A chestnut-and-oak forest with field, forest, and old-growth chestnut forms, spreading roots, occasional hollows, fallen timber, understory plants, chestnuts, and detailed forest floors.
Hemlock Cove
A darker, damper forest community with eastern hemlock, rhododendron, mossy ground cover, broadleaf trees, deadfalls, and enclosed cove terrain.
Grassy Bald
A rare open highland landscape with long sightlines, grassland vegetation, exposed stone, and room for settlement.
These biomes generate inside the normal Overworld through Lithostitched. No separate dimension or special world type is required.
Work timber by hand
On Old Mountain Time turns woodworking into a visible, in-world process.
- Use a Broad Axe on supported placed logs to hew them through visible stages into structural beams.
- Load beams onto Sawing Trestles and work them with a Frame Saw to produce Rough Boards.
- Use a Splitting Stump, Froe, and Wooden Maul to make shingles and split rails.
- The final action can process the staged workpiece and matching timber from the player’s inventory, up to 64 total inputs when the tool has enough durability.
- Unfinished materials can be recovered from the workstations.
The resulting beams, boards, shingles, rails, posts, walls, and joinery pieces form the foundation of the regional building palette.
Build a homestead
The Alpha includes a broad collection of materials and objects for Appalachian-inspired construction:
- Chestnut and other regional timber families
- Hewn beams, posts, walls, joists, rough boards, shingles, chinking, and split-rail fencing
- Fieldstone, dressed and chiseled masonry, piers, stairs, slabs, and walls
- Doors, windows, roof details, furniture, storage, workshop pieces, agricultural objects, and exterior details
- Naturally generated cabin homesteads and corn cribs
The springhouse template is retained for development and command placement, but it does not generate naturally in this Alpha.
Creative content is organized into Building Materials, Furniture & Decor, Nature & Farming, Tools & Workstations, and an All tab.
Grow and preserve food
Chestnuts and corn provide the first regional food progression.
- Gather chestnuts from the forest, place them as floor piles, or roast them.
- Craft the first Corn Kernels from Wheat Seeds and Yellow Dye.
- Plant kernels on farmland and harvest mature corn for ears and renewable kernels.
- Mill fresh or dried ears into Cornmeal.
- Craft a reusable Corn Drying Rack from Rough Chestnut Boards, Sticks, and String.
- Place the rack and load between one and 64 fresh ears at once.
- Adding more ears restarts the rack’s shared drying stage.
- Empty-hand unloading returns the exact stored quantity as fresh ears before maturity or dried ears after the final stage, while leaving the rack ready for reuse.
- Breaking the rack returns both the rack and all stored ears.
Three Cornmeal can be crafted into vanilla Bread.
Quick start
- Create a normal Overworld and find Chestnut-Oak Ridge.
- Gather chestnuts, Chestnut Logs, and Chestnut Saplings.
- Craft a Broad Axe and hew a supported placed log.
- Use Sawing Trestles and a Frame Saw to produce Rough Boards.
- Use a Splitting Stump, Froe, and Wooden Maul to make shingles or rails.
- Craft Corn Kernels from Wheat Seeds and Yellow Dye, then plant them on farmland.
- Build and load a Corn Drying Rack to preserve up to 64 ears.
- Follow the advancement chain toward a regional homestead.
Roughly Enough Items is optional. When installed, it can display normal recipes and explanatory pages for On Old Mountain Time’s physical processes. It does not bypass those in-world mechanics.
