About this project

What does Azeotrope add?

Azeotrope

A techno-chemical mod built on real industrial chemistry. Reactions run in temperature and pressure windows taken from actual process data, pollution is a consequence of production rather than a separate mechanic, and OSTWALD — a service AI recovered from a buried black box — optimises exactly one metric extremely well. Designed for tech modpacks, survival servers and anyone who wants a chemistry mod that teaches something true.

Key Features

Real reactions: equations, enthalpies and temperature windows from industrial practice. Miss the window and the reaction does not run; hit it badly and it runs five times slower, dirtier, and with more by-products

Temperature scale: there are mechanisms and natural heat sources — magma, campfire, soul campfire, fire, soul fire, lava

Stages of development: from the primitive mortar to innovative materials

Purity as a number: product purity equals how well you held the regime, is stored on the item, and carries forward into everything made from it

Veracity marks: every recipe is verified, simplified or fiction, shown in the item tooltip. A missing mark is treated as fiction, so a modpack cannot pass invention off as chemistry

In-game journal: 109 articles. Each one answers four questions — what it is, how it works, under what conditions, and what goes wrong — with cross-links to the recipes it describes

This mod introduces global pollution that is visible to the eye: polluted particles clump together and take on a purple hue, a dosimeter measures the concentration, and the UV mast doesn't just illuminate the airborne particulates — it breaks them down

Pharmacology with dynamic effects: the system features seven drugs, four organs, and stages of habituation. Tolerance builds and fades, use over three consecutive days leads to addiction, and the purity of the resulting drug determines the severity of the adverse effects — so you need to monitor the process closely

Persistent organ damage: the liver, kidneys, heart, and nervous system sustain various types of damage; these heal over the course of several in-game weeks of rest or through chelation therapy. The damage persists after death

Energy in EF: interchangeable with FE/RF over wire. A thermocouple turns a temperature difference into current by the Seebeck effect, with the modest efficiency thermoelectrics have in real life

Wrench handling: apparatus rotates and dismounts with a wrench — a lab wrench or any wrench from another mod

OSTWALD is a global AI operating in the game world prior to the player's arrival; it features its own autonomy scale, an evolving narrative, chat capabilities, and an immutable directive taken verbatim from Wilhelm Ostwald

Periodic table: elements are logged as they pass through your hands. Close the table entirely and a Nobel Prize is awarded, signed with the laureate's name

Special award for the best chemist: awarded for collecting all the chemical elements available in the mod

Camera: a system for taking and developing photos, just like in the most iconic detective stories

Vortex Cannon: what do you think it can do? It’s capable of quite a lot. It launches a toroidal vortex that can knock back mobs and items, knock torches off walls, and extinguish fires. The mechanics are quite interesting and will be expanded upon; the next step involves integration with Sable physics

Glow sticks: useful for exploring mines or the ocean floor. They come in eight colors. They are very simple to use—just throw or place them as needed. They also feature physics that allow them to bounce off blocks

Progression

Era What opens up
First Mortar, retort, burner, thermocouple. The lime cycle, salt, alkalis, chlorine bleach
Second Pressure, gas collection, sulphur and sulphuric acid, nitrogen, ammonia, the Ostwald process, the first azeotrope
Third Metallurgy, coke and blast furnace, electrolysis, electroplating, organics, fermentation, photochemistry, analytics

Story

Step What happens
1 A black box generates underground (Y −40 to 30)
2 Right-click it once for the OSTWALD tablet — a read-only receiver on a dying backup cell
3 A tablet without high computing power.. A stationary terminal is needed: controller, 3×3 screen, power
4 Terminal built and powered — autonomy rises, the AI reaches stage "Connected"
5 Your first completed reaction is noticed, and the first offer is made

Integrations

  • GeckoLib — required
  • Jade — optional, but recommended
  • JEI — optional
  • Industrial Upgrade — optional
