About this project

What does Almanac Core add?

📜 Almanac Core

Content-as-data library for the Majestic ecosystem: datapack-driven spells, rituals, research nodes and relics. Adds no content on its own.

NeoForge Minecraft 1.21.1 Library MIT license

✨ Overview

Almanac Core lets magic content be defined as datapack JSON instead of Java code. It parses spell, ritual, research-node and relic definitions from any datapack, keeps them in a shared registry, and syncs them to connected clients — ready for other mods (or third-party datapacks) to reference.

If you were told to install this mod, it's because another mod on your instance depends on it — most likely Majestic. On its own it adds no items, blocks or gameplay.

🎯 Features

📝 Data-Driven Definitions

Full Codec-based schemas for spells (school, tier, cost, cast type, effects), rituals (altar tier, item/tag inputs, essence cost, risk, outputs), research nodes (prerequisites, unlocks, tree position) and relics (slot, passives, active ability, set) — all plain JSON, reloadable without a restart.

🔄 Reload-Safe Loaders

Each kind is parsed by its own datapack reload listener into an in-memory registry, so a bad file in one category never wipes the others, and content updates apply on /reload.

🔌 Client Sync

The full loaded content set is pushed to every connected client on login and on every datapack reload, so client-side systems (a future guide, JEI, HUDs) always see the current state.

🔍 JEI-Ready

Built to plug into JEI once wired — ritual and research categories are designed around the same data this library already loads.

🧱 Mod Structure

Package What it provides
codec The SpellDefinition / RitualDefinition / ResearchNodeDefinition / RelicDefinition schemas.
data The reload listeners and the shared in-memory content registry.
net Server→client sync of the loaded content.
jei / guide Future integration points (JEI categories, an in-game guide bridge) — not wired yet.

📋 Requirements

Minecraft 1.21.1
NeoForge 21.1.249+
Java 21
Side Client and Server (required on both)
Depends on Astral Core
Optional JEI

🎮 How to Use

  1. Install as a dependency of another mod that requires it (e.g. Majestic), on both client and server.
  2. Install Astral Core alongside it.
  3. Drop spell/ritual/research-node/relic JSON in a datapack under data/<namespace>/almanac/<kind>/ — it loads automatically.

Early development. Almanac Core is still pre-release (0.0.0-beta.x); JSON schemas may change between betas.
