About this project
What does MTS/IV Collision Vehicle Damage add?
MTS/IV Collision Vehicle Damage
A small add-on for Immersive Vehicles - Adds real consequences when two vehicles crash into each other.
Why this mod?
In Immersive Vehicles (Minecraft Transport Simulator), vehicles simply have no collision with each other: two cars driving into one another just phase through, like ghosts, with zero consequences.
Adding real physical hitboxes between vehicles (actually blocking them, making them bounce off each other, etc.) is simply complex to pull off. This approach has already been attempted, but the result clearly left something to be desired and introduced new bugs.
So this mod takes a different, much simpler and more robust approach: vehicles keep passing through each other, exactly as they already do, but the contact is now detected and deals realistic damage to the vehicle, proportional to the speed of the impact. The result: ramming into another vehicle finally has a real cost, without touching the base mod's physics engine at all.
What the mod does
- Detects when two vehicles actually touch (a precise check on their real collision geometry, not just rough proximity).
- Deals damage to the vehicle(s) involved, proportional to the closing speed between the two vehicles at the moment of impact.
- The harder the impact, the greater the damage — up to full vehicle destruction (identical destruction behavior to a normal wall crash, nothing special added on top).
- A cooldown system prevents damage from stacking in a loop while two vehicles stay stuck together.
- This mod only deals with vehicles. It does not affect players or other entities — for that, see the companion mod MTS/IV Collision Entity Damage.
What's configurable
Everything is adjustable in config/mtscollisionvehicledamage-common.toml:
| Setting | Description | Default |
|---|---|---|
vehicleDamagePercent |
Percentage of the vehicle's max health lost per m/s of collision closing speed. Raise it for more punishing crashes, lower it (or set to 0) to disable damage entirely. | 0.6 |
minCollisionSpeedMs |
Minimum closing speed (m/s) below which no damage is dealt — a simple low-speed contact (parking, slow maneuvering) does nothing. | 10 |
collisionCooldownTicks |
Minimum delay (in ticks) between two damage triggers for the same pair of vehicles, giving you time to separate them. | 40 |
Compatibility
- Minecraft 1.20.1, Forge
- Requires Immersive Vehicles - MTS
- No additional dependencies
Notes
- Independent add-on: it does not modify any Immersive Vehicles files, it runs alongside it.
- Compatible with all MTS-based vehicle packs.
