About this project
What does Re-Coded add?
**The world is a program. You have root access.**
You wake up inside WORLD.EXE. Crafting, smelting, sleeping, even the Nether: all of it ships uninstalled. The Architect left you one tool: the Root Terminal, a soulbound in-game code editor.
Minecraft: Re-Coded turns Minecraft into a programming game. Write real code in ReCode, a small Python-like language, to mine, build, farm, fight, automate and rewrite the world. You don't need to know how to code already, because the mod teaches you as you play.

🖥️ **The Root Terminal**
Press **`** (the key under Esc) to open a full code editor inside the game:
Ghost-text autocomplete. It suggests what you can type next. Press Tab to accept.
Live linting and error highlighting. Mistakes are underlined as you type.
"In plain English" explanations of the line your cursor is on.
8 script files, templates, a one-line shell (F2), and macro keys (G H J K N)
Daemons. `on hurt:`, `on break:` and `on low_health:` handlers stay running and react to the world.
280+ API calls: `self`, `look`, `world`, `inv`, `scan`, `build`, `physics`, `fx`, `net` and more, example below!
**```**
**on break:**
**if event.block.is\_ore:**
**for b in scan.ores(6):**
**b.break()**
**fx.beam(self.eye, b.pos)**
**```** New to coding? Type tunnel 8, chop, vein or harvest into the shell. The easy commands do the work for you while you learn.
🔒 Kernel Lock: nothing is free
Vanilla systems start uninstalled. Earn commits (56 milestones) and install packages with pkg.install("crafting"):
crafting · smelting · farming · sleeping · trading · nether · enchanting · brewing · smithing · end · beacon
Code can't cheat either. Blocks and mobs created by code are synthetic and drop nothing. Teleports are capped, and every script costs CPU cycles. Crash your code and you take glitch damage.
⚙️ Coded Stations

Vanilla workstations are legacy hardware. Hold your Root Terminal and right-click one to flash it into its coded version:

🔧 Hardware Inspector & Firmware

Press I while holding any tool, weapon or armor piece. You get a holographic scan split into parts (HEAD / BINDING / HANDLE) and two code tabs:
SPEC: trade stats inside a point budget set by the material. Want a faster pick? Give up durability. Push past the budget to overclock, but the item becomes unstable.
FIRMWARE: event code that lives on the item itself. Auto-smelt ores you mine, cancel fall damage while wearing your boots, and more. Firmware shares ROM space with enchantments, so gold and netherite hold the most.
🔑 Privilege Escalation

Earn commits and craft keycards to climb from USER → ADMIN → SUDO → ROOT → KERNEL. Each level unlocks more of the world API: weather, time, terrain rewriting, building tools, longer range and more CPU.
👾 Hardware, Loot & Threats

Silicon, circuit boards, processors, RAM sticks, cooling fans and floppy disks. At night, Bugs and Viruses spawn. They corrupt the ground, fly through walls, steal your CPU and kill your running scripts. Their Corrupted Data decrypts into lost logs from the Architect.
🎬 A first boot you won't forget
New players get a cinematic BIOS boot sequence, where you are loaded into the simulation, followed by a guided tutorial that completes itself as you play. The Root Manual (press B) grows as you unlock commits and has 31 chapters.
The whole UI is re-skinned as a green terminal: the inventory, chests, hotbar, recipe book and every station. Every block glows and animates in the dark.
📦 Requirements & Compatibility
Minecraft 1.21.1 with NeoForge 21.1.248+
Needed on both the client and the server
JEI is optional and Is recommended to play with!: recipe transfer, station catalysts and info pages, and the code panels stay out of JEI's way
Server config lets you change or disable the Kernel Lock, legacy stations, CPU costs, player targeting and more
Mod is currently in beta so things are bound to change!
