About this project
What does SEISMIC: Living World add?

SEISMIC: Living World
The ground under your boots is alive. It carries weight, it shakes, and it has a climate of its own.
SEISMIC is a survival and physics overhaul for NeoForge 1.21.1, built entirely from scratch. It adds real structural collapse, earthquakes you can see coming, and a body-temperature system that rewards preparation. No dependencies, no borrowed assets: every model, texture and sound in this mod is original.
🏗️ Structural Integrity
Every full block has a load span: how far it can reach from solid support before it fails.
| Material | Span (blocks) |
|---|---|
| Glass, wool, loose soil | 2 |
| Soft rock (sandstone, netherrack) | 5 |
| Timber | 5 |
| Stone, bricks, cobblestone | 7 |
| Dense rock (deepslate, ores) | 9 |
| Timber Prop | 12 |
| Metal blocks | 14 |
When a block loses its support, it creaks and sheds dust for about a second before it gives way. That window is yours: get clear, or brace it with a Timber Prop and save the structure. If you don't, it comes down as real falling blocks that damage whatever they land on, and stone lands as cobblestone rubble. Pull the middle pillar out of a bridge and the whole unsupported span goes with it.
Mines need props, bridges need columns and glass roofs need frames. Build smart, partner.
🌎 Earthquakes
- Magnitudes follow a real Gutenberg–Richter distribution: frequent small tremors, rare major events.
- Foreshocks come before the main shock and can be detected with instruments.
- During a quake: camera shake, a deep rolling rumble, players thrown off balance, masonry cracking, glass shattering, and weakened load spans near the epicenter, so marginal overhangs finally give way.
- Earthquakes of magnitude 6 and above tear open fissures in natural ground.
📈 Seismograph
A drum seismograph that records ground motion live on paper. Load it with paper (one sheet records a full in-game day) and it will:
- Draw foreshocks and quakes on its rotating drum
- Emit a redstone signal from 1 to 15 from the first foreshock onward (comparator-compatible), ready to drive alarms, blast doors or evacuation systems
- Light its warning lamp and sound an alarm once the reading reaches 4
📡 Geo-Scanner
A handheld instrument with three modes:
- Use on a block: structural sweep of a 13×13×13 area, with every unsupported block outlined from green (sound) to red (critical)
- Use in the air: thermometer showing body temperature, air temperature and felt temperature
- Sneak + use: seismic forecast with estimated magnitude, time to impact and direction of the epicenter
256 durability, repairable with copper ingots.
🌡️ Body Temperature
Your core temperature responds to the biome, altitude, time of day, rain, water, caves (cool and stable, warmer with depth) and nearby heat or cold sources: fire, lava, furnaces, campfires, ice and snow.
- Leather insulates against cold, while heavy metal armor traps heat in hot climates.
- 35 °C mild hypothermia · 33 °C severe hypothermia · 38.5 °C heat exhaustion · 40 °C heat stroke
- A compact thermometer next to the hotbar shows your temperature and which way it is trending.
🥤 Thermos
Fill it at any water source, then hold it to a lit campfire to brew hot tea (grants Warmth) or to ice or snow to chill it (grants Cooling). Each fill holds four servings.
⚙️ Server and Performance
- Built to stay light: nothing ever scans the world. Checks run only where a block actually changed, on a configurable per-tick budget, and never load chunks.
- Gamerules:
doEarthquakes,doStructuralCollapse,doBodyTemperature - Config: span multiplier, checks per tick, quake frequency and maximum magnitude, fissure threshold, warning time, temperature rate
- Commands (operator):
/seismic quake <magnitude> [epicenter] [delaySeconds]/seismic stop/seismic forecast/seismic stress <pos>/seismic settle <from> <to>: re-checks builds placed by commands or WorldEdit/seismic temperature <player> [value]
- Safe by design: blocks with block entities (chests, furnaces, machines) never collapse, so no one loses their inventory. Leaves, logs, bedrock and portal frames are exempt as well, and the list can be extended through the
seismic:ignores_physicsblock tag.
🔨 Recipes
- Geo-Scanner: amethyst shard, copper ingots, redstone, glass pane
- Seismograph: iron ingots, paper, redstone, clock, smooth stone
- Timber Prop ×6: three logs stacked vertically
- Thermos: leather, iron ingots, glass bottle
