About this project

What does Book O’ Biomes add?

Heads up: this mod needs Lore O’ Libs, whose file is still under CurseForge review. Until that file is approved and downloadable, this mod will not load. This note comes down the day it is.

Book O’ Biomes, part of the Almanac O’ Adventures modpack utility series.

Book O' Biomes: a living field guide, every biome photographed, step inside, switch biomes off

Book O’ Biomes is a living field guide to every biome in your game, from any mod or datapack. Nothing is written by hand and nothing is tied to any one mod: add or remove mods and the book changes with them.

Open it from the book button on the pause menu, next to Back to Game. You can also type /catalog, or bind a key under Controls.

What it does

  • See the real biome: a patch of each one is generated and photographed.
  • Step inside: orbit, pan and zoom under the biome’s own sky and fog.
  • Meet what lives there: its creatures and structures, each a link to its own page when that book is installed.
  • Climate and colours, read from the game itself.
  • Switch any biome off: its neighbours grow over where it was. This is built in and needs no other mod; it applies to land generated from then on.

How it changes your game

It adds no blocks, items or creatures. It adds a book button to the pause menu and the book behind it. World generation changes only if you switch a biome off yourself.

Also in the book

  • Journal O’ Journeys: your screenshots as polaroids, a scrapbook, and stickers you win by playing.
  • Manual O’ Mods: a page for every mod you have installed.
  • Search by what a thing is, a page slider with every mod marked by its icon, and survival mode, where a page stays hidden until you have found the thing yourself.
  • Profiles: everything you have switched off, as one code you can paste into another pack.

Requirements

  • Lore O’ Libs: required. It is the book itself, shared by every O’ series mod.
  • Currently for Minecraft 1.20.1 on Forge. 1.21.1 is planned next, with Fabric on the way.

Part of the O’ series

Install this book alone or alongside the other O’ series books. All five come in one file as Almanac O’ Adventures. Do not install the Almanac and this file together.

Found a problem? Report it from the book

Open the close-up of anything that looks wrong and press the ! button. Pick what the problem is, and the book takes a screenshot of the page and opens our GitHub page with the report already written for you. The screenshot is waiting on your clipboard: click the box, press Ctrl+V, then Submit. You need a free GitHub account, and nothing is sent until you press Submit yourself.

Reports turn into fixes for everyone. When you join a world the book reads one small public list of fixes, so a creature, structure or item that was reported gets put right without waiting for a new download. Nothing about you is sent, and it can be switched off in the config.

See what has been reported, or tell us about anything else: GitHub issues for the Almanac and every O’ series mod.
