About this project
What does Inventory Sortify add?
Inventory Sortify
Sort your inventory and chests with one click, keep the items you care about with a filter, move items between your inventory and a chest, and never lose a tool to breaking again.
Built for modern NeoForge with no library dependencies.
Features
Sorting
- Small sort buttons above your inventory and above chests, barrels, shulker boxes and modded storage.
- Or press R (rebindable in Controls), or middle-click a slot (outside creative mode).
- Items are grouped by category (tools, weapons, armor, food, blocks, ores...) using item tags, so modded items are sorted too.
- Partial stacks are merged into full stacks.
- Machines (furnaces, brewing stands, crafting grids...) are never touched.
Sorting rules
Decide where things go in your inventory with a simple text file (config/inventorysortify/rules.txt):
D1 sword: a sword always goes in the first hotbar slot.A food: the top row is filled with food.9 torch: column 9 is filled with torches.D LOCKED: sorting never moves items out of your hotbar.D9 FROZEN: sorting never touches that slot.
Keywords come from an editable item tree, and you can also use any item id (minecraft:torch) or tag (#c:ingots). Changes are picked up the next time you sort, no restart needed.
Inventory filter
Open it with the filter button in your inventory and choose what stays in your inventory when moving items to a chest:
- By item: that item type stays, wherever it is.
- By slot: whatever is in that slot stays. Perfect for keeping one of two identical tools.
Filtered slots are marked with a small *, both in your inventory and on your hotbar.
Transfer arrows
When you open a chest, two arrows appear:
- Up arrow: moves your items into the chest (filtered items always stay).
- Down arrow: takes items from the chest into your inventory.
Each arrow can move everything, or only matching items (only what the chest already has / only what you already carry). Choose the mode in the config.
Auto-refill
- When a tool breaks or a stack runs out in your hand, the same item from your inventory takes its place.
- Refill before breaking (optional): your tool is swapped out just before it breaks, so you can still repair it.
- Tool protection: with no spare tool, you hear a warning sound, see a message, and the tool is moved to an empty slot so it doesn't break. With no empty slot, you just get the warning.
Configuration
Open it with the gear button in your inventory, or from the Mods list. Everything can be turned on or off: middle-click sorting, sort buttons, filter marks, arrow modes, auto-refill, refill before breaking (and the durability at which it happens), and sounds.
Multiplayer
- Sorting needs Inventory Sortify on the server too (single player always works). The server checks every sort, so no items can be created or lost.
- Transfer arrows, auto-refill and tool protection use normal vanilla clicks and work on any server.
Requirements
- Minecraft 26.3
- NeoForge 26.3.0.95 or newer
- No other dependencies
