About this project
What does Corpse decay add?
Corpse Decay
Nothing in your world just disappears any more. Mobs ragdoll when they die, then slowly rot down to their real skeletons. The world is full of things that died long before you arrived.
No blood or gore anywhere. It’s bones, cloth, moss and time.
Bodies that decay
- Every mob falls as a ragdoll and keeps its armour, clothes, held items and any arrows stuck in it.
- Over real time the body goes from fresh, to rotting, to its own skeleton, then crumbles away. Each mob decays to its own bones, so a cow leaves a cow skeleton and a horse leaves a horse’s.
- Squids and other boneless mobs leave only a beak and a squid pen.
- Flies buzz around rotting bodies.
- Burnt mobs leave charred remains, and the cause of death shows in how the body ends up.
- Bodies left in swamps turn into dark bog bodies, and bodies left in the cold freeze-dry into mummies.
- Loot a body for what the mob would drop, or switch on “loot everything” to take all its gear.
A world with a past
- Old remains: adventurers in their armour, animals, and whale skeletons on the sea floor, with moss, mushrooms or cobwebs growing over them.
- Fossils: whole skeletons in the rock, ammonites, trilobites, fish and ferns, and fossil whales lying in the desert.
- Stone Age sites: painted caves, stone circles, dolmens, burial mounds and mammoth-bone huts.
- Pirate crews: the bodies of crewmen in realistic pirate gear lie on the decks of shipwrecks.
- Ghost ships: in frozen oceans you can find a ship frozen in the ice. It’s a sloop, brigantine, merchantman, frigate or galleon, completely intact with its crew frozen at their posts, and the captain’s journal tells their story. They’re rare.
Settings
Open Mods → Corpse Decay → Config for an animated settings screen. It shows a body rotting at the speed you set, and lets you tune decay times, ragdoll force, corpse limits, which world features generate, and which mobs never leave a body.
Compatibility
- TONI’s Better Shipwrecks: install the small add-on
corpsedecay_bettershipwrecksand its wrecks get crews too. - The world features only appear in newly generated chunks. Bodies work in any world.
