About this project

What does Bodyworks add?

Every hit lands somewhere. Treat it right, or it kills you.

Bodyworks gives you a real body. Your head, torso, arms, legs and feet each take their own damage. Cuts bleed, falls break bones, fire leaves burns, and anything you ignore turns infected. Every injury has its own fix, and healing yourself properly pays you back.

🩸 Your Body, in Parts

  • 8 body parts: head, torso, both arms, both legs and both feet. Each has its own health.
  • Head and torso are vital. Empty either one and you die, no matter how many hearts you have left. The head holds 3 hearts, the torso 5, every other part 2.
  • Armor guards its own part. Helmet for the head, chestplate for the torso and arms, leggings for the legs, boots for the feet. Each piece is scaled so a full set protects every part like a full set does in vanilla. Skip the helmet and your head takes the whole hit.
  • No cheap one-shots. One ordinary hit can't empty a full head or torso. It leaves you at half a heart, so you get one chance to fix it. Truly huge hits still kill.
  • Hits land where they land. Arrows hit the height they actually strike. In melee, arms catch the most, then the torso. The head is the hardest target.
  • Injuries slow you down. Broken legs slow you. Broken arms make you mine and hit weaker. A badly hurt head makes you dizzy.
  • Body screen: press Alt + H, or click the medkit button in your inventory. It blinks red when something needs care. Three looks to pick from: Monitor, Chart and X-ray.
  • HUD outline by your hotbar turns red wherever you are hurt.

⚠️ Four Ways to Get Hurt

  • Bleeding: mob hits and arrows open cuts. Blood loss drains your whole body until you bandage the cut. Left alone it clots after 2 minutes, but the cut stays dirty.
  • Broken bones: falls break feet and legs, big hits break arms. A broken part only heals halfway until you splint it. Splinted bones set in about 2 minutes.
  • Burns: fire and lava. Burns never heal on their own.
  • Infection: any cut or burn left untreated for 5 minutes turns infected. That includes a cut that already stopped bleeding. Infection drains health and hunger.

💊 The Medicine Cabinet

  • Bandage, Splint, Burn Salve, Antiseptic, Herbal Poultice: the everyday fixes.
  • Antibiotics: cure infection on every part, then block new infection for 5 minutes.
  • Antidote: clears poison and wither. Milk and charcoal, and you get the bottle back.
  • Heatproof Gel: for 8 minutes, fire and lava still hurt but can't leave burns. Magma cream and slime.
  • Witherward Pills: the wither effect can't take hold for 8 minutes. Made from a wither skeleton skull.
  • Venomward Pills: poison can't take hold for 30 minutes. Made from hydra fangs and a golden apple.
  • Painkillers and Morphine: dull injury slowdowns. Morphine wipes them out for 4 minutes, but never double up.
  • Tourniquet: stops a limb bleeding at once. Take it off within 5 minutes or the limb starts losing circulation.
  • Medkit: fixes everything on every part and heals a lot.
  • IV Stand and Saline Bag: heals everyone standing close, and bleeding does no damage on the drip.
  • Recovery Bed: lie down to heal, stop bleeding, clean cuts and clear burns. Bones set faster and infection is held off.
  • First Aid Bag: carries your supplies. Everything inside works straight from the body screen.
  • How to treat: sneak and right-click a supply to treat your worst part, or pick it on the body screen and click the part. Use it on a friend to treat them.

🏅 Healing Pays

Tired of players dropping their loot in a chest and jumping off a cliff to reset their health? Bodyworks makes patching up the better deal.

  • Conditioning: every injury you heal properly toughens that body part. A set bone is worth 2 points, a treated burn or cleared infection 1. Each point is 4% less damage to that part, up to 20%. Treated burns also cut fire damage by 5% each, up to 25%.
  • Medic Pay: fixing injuries pays experience. Treating a friend pays double. Up to 100 a day.
  • Well Rested: badly hurt? Heal all the way in a powered Recovery Bed for 10% faster mining and 10% more damage for 10 minutes.
  • Survival Streak: 7 in-game days without dying makes you Seasoned (+1 heart). 20 days makes you Hardened (permanent Resistance I).
  • The catch: die once and it is all gone. Streak, conditioning and bonuses reset. Earn them back by staying alive.

⚙️ Built for Create

  • The Recovery Bed runs on Create rotation. Faster spin heals faster.
  • Every medicine has a Create recipe that makes more for less. Most make double. Medkits roll off a sequenced assembly line.
  • Farmer's Delight: cut canvas into bandages, and cook salve, antiseptic, painkillers, antibiotics and morphine in the cooking pot.
  • Create and Farmer's Delight are optional. Every item also has a normal crafting recipe.
  • Dragonworks adds dragon blood medicine: Emberblood Tonic, Frostblood Salve and Stormblood Stimulant.

🛠️ For Pack Makers and Mod Authors

  • Any item can be medicine. Add it to the bodyworks:treatments data map from a datapack or your own mod: which wounds it cures, how much it heals, cooldown, painkiller time, effects and more.
  • Everything is configurable in bodyworks-common.toml: per-slot armor and the one-shot guard (each can be turned off), bleed and burn chances, how long bleeding lasts, the infection timer, splint time, tourniquet time, and every reward (or turn rewards off).
  • Client settings move the HUD outline and inventory button, or hide them.
  • Operator commands: /bodyworks status [player] shows every body part, and /bodyworks heal [player] restores them all.
  • Plays well with extra hearts: heart canisters, golden hearts (absorption) and totems all work with the body.
  • Works in multiplayer. Treat a friend and you earn double medic pay.

📋 Requirements

  • Minecraft 1.21.1 with NeoForge.
  • Optional: Create, Farmer's Delight, Dragonworks.
  • Made for the Create Aeronautics: Ice and Fire modpack, and works in any pack.
