About this project
What does Soulworks add?
Soulworks
Hunt mobs. Harvest their essence. Build a factory around them.
Soulworks is a craftable, upgradeable mob spawner made for building farms. Earn a mob's essence by hand, forge it into a Soul Core, and put the core in a Replicator to produce that mob on demand. Any mob with a spawn egg works, including modded ones. Bosses don't.
How it works
- Hunt: mobs you kill yourself have a chance to drop their essence. Looting helps.
- Forge: craft 8 essence from one mob into a Tier I Soul Core.
- Replicate: put the core in a Replicator and fuel it with matching essence.
- Build: every mob appears on the block in front of the machine's opening, so you can send them wherever you like.
- Upgrade: click essence onto a core to feed it, then craft it into the next tier.
Core tiers
| Tier | Seconds per cycle | Cycles per essence | Uses |
|---|---|---|---|
| I Unstable | 30 | 1 | 64 |
| II Stabilized | 20 | 2 | 256 |
| III Refined | 12 | 4 | 1,024 |
| IV Perfected | 6 | 8 | 4,096 |
| V Eternal | 3 | No fuel needed | Unlimited |
Mob ranks
| Rank | Examples | Highest tier | Upgrade essence | Base drop chance |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Common | Cow, Zombie, and any unranked mob | V | x1 | 15% |
| Valuable | Blaze, Enderman, Iron Golem, Wither Skeleton | IV | x2 | 25% |
| Rare | Evoker, Ravager, Shulker | III | x4 | 40% |
Machines and items
- Replicator: spawns the core's mob. A redstone signal turns it off, hoppers can feed it fuel, and a status line tells you what it needs.
- Speed Upgrade: each adds 50% speed, up to 4.
- Amount Upgrade: each adds 1 mob per cycle and raises the mob limit, up to 4.
- Modifiers: the Replicator's side panel has 3 optional modifier slots. No Gear spawns mobs without armor or weapons, Adults Only stops babies and jockeys, and No AI makes mobs stand idle while gravity and water still move them.
- Refined Essence: made with blaze rods, and burns like 8 essence.
- Soul Extractor: a slow starter farm block that kills replicated mobs above it and collects the drops. It gives no XP or player-only drops, so a custom farm is still worth building.
Fair by design
Machines never make essence, and replicated mobs never drop it, so a farm can't fuel itself.
For pack makers
- Block mobs with the entity type tag
soulworks:replication_blocked. - Re-rank mobs with
soulworks:rank/valuableandsoulworks:rank/rare. - Drop chances, the Looting bonus, the mob limit and upgrade costs are in the config.
JEI is optional and shows every recipe. Soulworks is needed on both client and server.
