Quick answer
Which Walkable Deck release should I use?
Walkable Deck 0.9.92 targets 1.22.6, 1.22.7. It must be installed on the client. Installation on the dedicated server is optional. No extra mods listed for this file.
Where it goes
Is Walkable Deck required on the client, server, or both?
It must be installed on the client. Installation on the dedicated server is optional.
This release supports both sides, but the source does not require it on the server.
What else does Walkable Deck 0.9.92 need?
0.9.92. Change the file and its required mods may change too.
This file does not list any required mods. Do not add a library just because a different file uses it.
We only count dependency files that match this setup. A file for another loader does not fill the gap.
Before you install it

Neither Shipwright nor The Airship Mod is required. Support for each switches on only when that mod is actually installed, and the server log says which are active rather than leaving you to guess.
What it does
Stand up from any seat, the helm included. Press the deck-walk key (left Alt by default, rebindable under Controls) or type .deckwalk. Press it again beside a seat to sit in that one. Walk, sprint and look around with WASD while the ship moves under you.
Board by landing on it, or by clicking a seat. Clicking a seat works exactly as it always has. On top of that, jump, swim or glide onto a deck and you are aboard where you landed, with no teleport back to a chair. Landing aboard is skipped for anyone in creative flight, noclip or spectator, so flying over a moored boat does not grab you; a glider is deliberately not excluded.
Decks are measured, not boxes. Each hull carries an outline that follows the real edge of its deck and a height surface built from points placed by hand in game. A tapered bow stops you where the deck actually ends; a sunken floor between raised gunwales stays flat instead of stepping. Twelve hulls carry a measured outline and eleven a height surface. The raft has four corners and a flat deck because that is what a raft is, not because it was skipped.
A pose that suits the hull. You stand on the larger ships. On the kayak, totora, coracle, raft and airship gondola there is nothing to stand up in, so you crouch.
You can see the crew. Hold the deck-walk key to label every seat: free, taken, whose it is, which is the helm, and which seat its owner has left to walk. Names are drawn where each person is actually standing, amber on their feet and white when seated.
Using it
Left Alt |
Stand up, or sit back down beside a seat. Hold it to label the seats. |
Jump |
Step off in the direction you are looking. Holding forward or sprint pushes further. |
Sneak |
Step off quietly. An optional confirm stops a mistap dropping you in the water. |
/deckwalk my |
Your own settings: jump-off, sneak-off, the sneak confirm. Remembered across relogs, no privilege needed. |
New in 0.9.40
Eleven hulls now carry decks measured in game rather than plain rectangles; nine of them had no measured deck at all before. This is also a multiplayer fix. Until now those measurements reached the game only through the authoring tool, which rewrites one client's copy in memory. Another player on the same server therefore walked the deck the mod shipped, while the surveyed deck never left the client it was drawn on. On the drakkar those had drifted to a ring of 8 points against 14. Everyone now reads the same numbers.
How the decks are surveyed
Every measured deck above was drawn in the Deck Shape Editor, the authoring tool used to survey the hulls. It is not part of this mod and you do not need it to play. Shown here on The Airship Mod's tier 2 gondola.
All four views at once. Plan (top down, coloured by deck height, drawn over the hull's real silhouette from the game's shape files), 3D, side and front.
Side view. The deck surface along the length, with every height marker at its real height.
Front view. A cut across the beam: the sunken floor between the raised sides.
3D view. The surveyed deck surface inside the gondola.
Zones mode. Walk zones painted on the gondola, where you stand up instead of crouching.
Server settings
All under /deckwalk, stored in walkabledeck.json. Defaults are what every server starts with; nothing below needs setting for the mod to work.
sail |
Let a ship keep its own propulsion while the helmsman walks. Off by default. |
hold |
Hold a disconnected player's seat for them. On by default. |
sneakconfirm |
First sneak in a seat asks before dropping you. Off by default. |
status |
Every setting and its current value, including which are yours and which are the server's. |
Work in progress
Built and being tested, not in the current release. Listed here so you can see where it is going, and so you can say if any of it would be wrong for your server.
Staying aboard when you disconnect. Log out at sea and your seat is held: your body stays on deck where you were, labelled offline, so the crew can see who they are waiting on and the ship does not have to wait for you. Log back in and you are put back in your seat at the same spot on the deck, wherever the ship has sailed to since. A held helmsman holds the helm, so nobody can steer until the crew frees it.
Seat assignment. Every seat identified individually rather than only as free or taken, so a crew can agree who has which chair and a message naming a seat can be matched to one you can point at.
More server configuration. The aim is that anything opinionated this mod does can be switched off by the server running it, landing-on-deck boarding included. If there is a behaviour you would want to disable, say so and it will get a switch.
How much has this been used? It runs on a public multiplayer server and no issues have been reported by the people playing there, but that is a short track record rather than a long one, and it patches seats and movement, which is where most mod conflicts live. Treat it as young rather than unproven.
Known limits. One hull is not surveyed yet: Shipwright's large junker walks as a plain rectangle with no height surface, so a walker there is clamped to the hull footprint and stands at seat height. Every other supported hull has a measured outline, and every hull with anything to measure has a height surface. Jump-and-swim boarding cannot currently be turned off by a server.
