About this project
What does Panning Machine add?
Automate your panning.
The Panning Machine is a mechanical device that processes gravel, sand, and bony soil automatically, freeing you from hours of manual panning. Connect it to your power network, set it up near water, and let the machine do the work — while you focus on everything else your world demands.
This mod is designed with balance in mind. The machine is deliberately a step down from hand panning in yield per block, rewarding automation with convenience rather than raw output. It fits naturally into a mid-to-late game mechanical setup without trivialising early resource gathering.
> How to Use
Setting up the Panning Machine is straightforward. Follow these steps and it will run reliably:
- Place the machine in water. It requires contact with water to operate. This can be disabled in the config if you prefer.
- Connect mechanical power from either side of the machine. A windmill or any other power source works fine.
- Keep the block directly behind the machine empty. This is required for the water flow mechanic to function correctly.
- Place a container in front (side with the chute) of the machine to collect the output. Chutes are also supported.
- Add material to process by right-clicking on top of the machine with a stack of bony soil, gravel, or sand — or simply drop a stack onto it.
Once set up, the machine will display processing info above it. Each block of material yields output 6 times before being consumed. This value can be adjusted in the config.
The machine uses the same drop table as the vanilla wooden pan, so any mod that extends panning drops will work here automatically.
> Configuration
The following options can be changed in the mod config file:
- RequiresWater — toggle whether the machine needs to be placed in water. [Default = true]
- MaxPanningProcesses — maximum number of times an item can be processed in the panning slot. [Default = 6]
- MechanicalResistance — mechanical resistance of the panning machine. [Default = 0.085]
- SpeedMultiplier — speed multiplier applied to mechanical network speed. [Default = 1.6]
> Compatibility
All mods that extend the vanilla wooden pan drop table are automatically supported.
- Works with vanilla Mechanical Power — any mod using the standard power system will connect without issue.
-
Wilderlands: Panning Overhaul — compatible since version 1.0.5.
- Wilderlands: Stonebound — compatible since version 1.0.10.
- Realistic Panning Loot — compatible since version 1.0.9.
-

Rejected:
https://mods.vintagestory.at/canjewelry - shouldn't be automated
https://mods.vintagestory.at/alchemicalrefinement - mod abandonedObviously not compatible with OmniPan. Do not disappoint The Pan.
> Known Issues
- xSkills — the machine renderer does not work correctly when xSkills is active. A response from the xSkills author is pending. Thank you for your patience.
- Seraph Leveling — a similar issue has been reported with this mod. Currently under investigation.
> Planned
When? I don't know.
- A steel version of the machine with improved drop rates and potentially automatic input support.
- Broader compatibility patches for more mods.
