About this project
What does Leaf Litter add?
This is a companion mod to Deciduous Trees, but works fully standalone.
What does this mod do?
Ever wonder where all those leaves go?
As deciduous trees shed through autumn, leaf litter piles up beneath their canopies, in sync with Deciduous Trees. Since this mod uses the same emergent gameplay as Deciduous Trees, sheltered valleys shed late, mountains shed early. All of which culminates into leaves covering your yard, then you get a rake and deal with it, like a responsible adult.
Wade through the piles, rake them into mounds, jump in them, burn them, compost them, or spread them on your farmland as mulch.
~ Exploring somewhere new mid-season blankets freshly loaded regions so the world doesn't look like autumn skipped it.
~ Fireflies use leaf litter as their homes, you'll find them hanging around piles.
~ A craftable rake with three modes using 'f'.
* The rake pulls litter like the vanilla snow shovel pushes snow (you must walk Backward while holding right click). Pile leaves into a full block to collect packed leaf layers that are more efficient to compost.
* The rake in 'crook mode' picks fruits from trees twice as fast
* The rake in 'till mode' removes grass, converting the block to the non-grass variant. You may also unearth live worms from this (great way of finding fishing bait).
~ Jump in the piles to make them splat! or to reduce fall damage.
~ Apply a litter layer to farmland as mulch: a small nutrient kick plus 50% slower moisture loss for a game month.
~ Composting leaf litter allows you to get more nutrients out of them than just sprinkling them on your farm. Packed blocks are far more barrel-efficient.
~ Dry leaves are kindling. They burn in the firepit and they burn in the world, so mind your torches around the pile you spent all afternoon raking.
~ In spring, natural litter slowly decays and the soil beneath long-standing piles turns into forest floor. Your raked piles and decorative placements are never touched.
~ Leaves exposed to the sky will be replaced with snow.
Consider my other mods!
Deciduous Trees - The other half of autumn. Trees shed their canopy by local temperature.
Seasonal Flowers - Temperature-based mod that hides flowers in the winter and gives flowers a visual lifecycle.
Everything Black Raspberry - The classic Midwestern berry bush and its respective products.
Fast Packed Dirt Paths - Packed dirt, but faster to walk on.

Q. Do I need Deciduous Trees for this to work?
A. Not really, but they compliment one another. Litter uses the same shedding mechanic either way; with both installed the leaves visibly thin out above exactly as the litter deepens below.
Q. Can I remove this mod mid-save?
A. Kinda, this mod leaves behind modded leaf litter blocks during certain seasons. If you wait for them to naturally decay, you can safely remove this mod. If you don't, however, your world will have harmless white '?' blocks that can be removed by a server-side mod. (All mods that add new blocks need this treatment).
Q. Is this mod compatible with X?
A. It plays nice with the vast majority of mods. All modded trees will drop leaf litter by default, add them to the config list if you do not want them to drop litter.
Q. Rake won't work or takes too long to work?
A. You need to WALK BACKWARD while holding right click for it to do anything.
A. You also may need to select the correct mode using 'f'
Q. When does litter actually appear?
A. Through autumn, gradually. Cold snaps. If a region loads mid-season it gets caught up automatically.
Q. My piles are gone and there's weird dark soil under the trees?
A. As leaves decay, forest floor blocks are generated beneath them. Piles you raked up (4+ layers) and litter not directly under trees will not decay. You can turn this feature off in the config.
Q. How do I get the packed leaf litter block?
A. Rake. Hold right click when holding a rake and walk forward to push litter into a mound. Push enough into one spot and it packs into a full block. That's the only way, rake your lawn like a normal human.
Q. Can I remove this mod from an existing save?
A. Kinda, though unlike Deciduous Trees this one places modded blocks. Existing litter becomes unknown blocks that clean up harmlessly when broken. Wait until litter piles go away in spring before you do.
Q. The mulch wore off?
A. It lasts one game month by default (MulchDurationMonths in the config), then you can reapply once the texture fades.
Q. My friend keeps jumping in my raked leaf piles, how do I stop them from exploding?
A. I gave you a rake, hit them with it.
Q. Why did you make this mod?
A. Autumn in Michigan. I deperately want to go home and this is a way to cope with homesickness for the time being.
Q. What languages does this mod support?
A. German (Deutsch) and Russian (Русский) currently
