About this project

What does Apothic Ascension add?

Apothic Ascension is a large endgame progression expansion for Apotheosis on Minecraft 1.21.1 / NeoForge. Its goal is not to replace Apotheosis or bolt a separate RPG system onto it. Instead, Ascension takes the systems Apotheosis already uses—rarities, affixes, gems, reforging, salvaging, natural loot and Invader bosses—and extends them into a much longer, more structured endgame. If a normal Apotheosis world eventually reaches the point where Mythic equipment, Perfect gems and heavily optimized builds have become routine, Ascension is designed to give that progression somewhere to go next.

Neat Stuff In It

13 rarities beyond Mythic

Ascension adds a complete post-Mythic rarity ladder: Legendary → Ancient → Forgotten → Primal → Stellar → Divine → Esoteric → Cataclysmic → Abyssal → Empyrean → Paracausal → Transcendent → Apotheotic These are real Apotheosis LootRarity entries, not cosmetic labels applied after generation. They participate in the existing affix engine, reforging pipeline, salvage system, natural loot flow and boss equipment generation. The number of requested affixes grows with rarity. A broad-category Legendary item begins at five requested affixes, while the widest Apotheotic pools can reach thirteen. Narrower categories such as shields or shears use explicit category rules instead of being forced to satisfy impossible global counts. The upper rarities also receive increasingly distinctive presentation: animated title treatment, stronger tooltip framing and drop visuals, with landmark tiers using the native rainbow rarity treatment where appropriate.

Specialization over pure affix inflation

Simply adding more random affixes would make high-rarity items noisy rather than interesting, so Ascension introduces a focus system. There are five native focus families:

  • Attack - direct offense, crit behavior, armor penetration/shred, current-health pressure, cleaving and offensive triggers.
  • Defense - armor, toughness, health, knockback resistance, defensive reactions and shield-oriented effects.
  • Agility - movement, attack/draw speed, reach, projectile behavior and mobility-oriented triggers.
  • Sustain - life steal, healing, regeneration, overheal and defensive recovery loops.
  • Utility - luck, experience, mining, reach, underwater utility, telepathic drops, omnetic/radial tool behavior and similar non-combat specialization.

The first strong native focus roll tends to establish the item's specialization. Native affixes from the other focus families are mutually exclusive after that lock, so a high-tier item develops a coherent identity rather than becoming a bag of unrelated Ascension bonuses. Stock Apotheosis affixes remain part of generation and can still add useful secondary texture.

Beta 1 ships 85 focus affixes: 30 stat affixes, 15 basic-effect affixes and 40 ability affixes. The constrained ability pools are deliberately built with enough same-family headroom for high-rarity armor and melee generation after focus lock.

Affix evolution at higher tiers

The focus system is only the first layer. Higher rarities can access 20 evolution affixes that build on those themes:

  • compound multi-stat cores;
  • evolved proc families;
  • higher-tier keystones with real tradeoffs;
  • conservative support abilities added specifically to prevent high-tier constrained-pool exhaustion.

The intent is that moving from Legendary to Apotheotic changes the structure and specialization of the item, not just the number printed beside an attribute.

Gem Ascension beyond Perfect

Ascension adds 13 grades above Perfect, following the same Legendary-to-Apotheotic ladder as item rarities. Extended grade is stored as a typed item data component and applied through semantic adapters rather than one generic multiplier. That matters because different bonuses have different valid domains. Attribute values, probability bonuses, protection fractions, cooldowns, effect durations/amplifiers, drop multiplication and radial mining are scaled according to their meaning, with ceilings where unrestricted multiplication would become invalid or destructive.

Gem Ascension Matrix

Post-Perfect advancement uses the Gem Ascension Matrix and the ordinary crafting recipe pipeline. The recipe:

  • requires a genuine Perfect-purity Apotheosis gem;
  • copies the exact input stack so the gem's identity and components are preserved;
  • changes only its Ascension grade;
  • rejects non-Perfect-purity gems;
  • treats Apotheotic as a hard terminal grade.

Because it is a normal crafting recipe, automation capable of executing ordinary crafting recipes can use it without Ascension hard-linking itself to Create or another automation mod.

Materials, reforging and salvage continue through the full ladder

Every Ascension rarity has corresponding progression data for the normal Apotheosis gameplay loop, including:

  • rarity materials;
  • material-upgrade recipes;
  • reforging recipes;
  • affix-item salvage recipes;
  • gem-upgrade material tags.

The result is a continuous endgame economy rather than a set of loot-only rarities that bypass the systems players already learned through Apotheosis.

Staged natural progression

Ascension does not simply allow Apotheotic gear to appear as soon as the mod is installed. A persistent per-player Ascension stage controls how far natural post-Mythic progression is allowed to advance. The current stage ladder is:

Locked -> Ascendant -> Celestial -> Esoteric -> Transcendent -> Apotheotic

Progression state is stored using NeoForge attachments, copied through player death, and migrated one-way from legacy Alpha-era state where necessary. Automatic progression scanning is bounded and de-phased rather than tied synchronously to every loot event.

This stage is also part of combat pressure, so progression is not purely a loot unlock—it changes what the endgame expects from the player.

Bosses scale with the player, without permanently mutating them

Apotheosis Invaders can roll Ascension rarities and receive rarity-specific pressure profiles. Ascension also applies stage-aware hostile pressure per player.

The implementation intentionally avoids permanently rewriting boss attributes. Damage-time scaling is player-relative, which should make things more fair in multiplayer since a boss should not become permanently "contaminated" by one highly progressed player's state and then be functionally immortal for everyone else.

High-tier pressure includes:

  • effective-health scaling;
  • outgoing-damage scaling;
  • bounded post-mitigation single-hit caps designed to prevent extreme burst builds from erasing the top-end boss ladder in one hit.

Combat telemetry can separately report Ascension-permitted pre-absorption damage and actual health loss so later Beta tuning can be driven by measured TTK/TTD rather than tooltip arithmetic alone. (Modpack is very crude right now, lots of tuning to still do)

Compatibility (Important)

Required / core

Beta 1 targets the following tested matrix:

  • Minecraft 1.21.1
  • NeoForge 21.1.235
  • Apotheosis 8.5.4
  • Placebo 9.9.1
  • Apothic Attributes 2.9.1
  • Apothic Spawners 1.3.4
  • Apothic Enchanting 1.5.3
  • AttributeFix 21.1.3
  • Java 21

AttributeFix is intentionally required. Ascension's authored endgame attribute model can exceed vanilla attribute bounds; duplicating global range-widening behavior inside Ascension would be a worse architectural boundary than depending on the focused mod that already owns it, especially since this mod is designed to be in large packs rather than a standalone or core mod.

Optional integrations

  • JEI - optional client integration for extended gem ingredient/subtype behavior.
  • Iron's Spells 'n Spellbooks - data-only spell/mana/casting compatibility affixes.
  • Ars Nouveau - data-only spell damage, warding, mana and regeneration compatibility affixes.
  • Spartan Weaponry Unofficial - optional tag/data-map mapping into supported Apotheosis loot categories; no Spartan Java classes are hard-linked.
  • Create / crafting automation - no Create API dependency; Gem Ascension uses ordinary crafting and can be automated by systems that execute normal recipes.

Intentionally incompatible

  • Nadir - overlaps the same post-Mythic rarity/progression responsibility.
  • Apothic Gem Tiers - legacy prototype whose gem behavior overlaps Ascension 1.x. (If you can even find the JAR I'd be impressed seeing as it was never published to curseforge)

Operator diagnostics The canonical diagnostic root is:

/apothic_ascension debug

Useful commands include targeted environment/registry/stage/tier/recipe checks, generated-item stress tests, boss-equipment validation and combat telemetry. The fixed real-pack release gate is:

/apothic_ascension debug release_gate

(It is deliberately tick-sliced and discard-only: generated stacks are inspected and thrown away rather than inserted into inventories or spawned into the world since the debug cycles roll a lot of items)
