About this project

What does Ember's Questing add?

Ember's Questing

Curseforge is taking a exceptionally long time approving a few of the releases, for fabric and 1.20.1 releases you can download from the forgejo https://git.tysontheember.dev/TysonTheEmber/embersquesting/releases

Ember's Questing is a quest mod for modpacks, built on LDLib2. Quests are JSON files, so you can write them in any editor, keep them in git and ship them in a datapack. If you would rather build them in game, there is a full editor for that too, and it saves to the same files.

Quests

Each quest has its own file inside a chapter folder. Tasks, rewards, dependencies and conditions all go in that file. You can lock a quest behind others, hide it until it unlocks, make it repeatable, or let the player pick their reward. Running /eq validate checks every file and tells you what is wrong, and the JSON schemas give you autocomplete in VS Code and IntelliJ.

If your pack uses FTB Quests, /eq import ftbquests converts it and writes a report of anything it could not carry over.

Descriptions

Quest descriptions can hold a lot more than text. You can add images and GIFs, item lists that open recipes, crafting recipes, entity models and 3D block scenes. A scene can play through a build step by step with camera moves, captions and a small builder figure, and players can project the build into their world as a guide.

World view

A chapter can be shown as a small world instead of a flat map. Quests sit on pedestals, your character walks between them, and mobs wander around. There are islands, plains, caves, a village and a nether fortress, plus a Create workshop and an AE2 base when those mods are installed.

Make it match your pack

Every part of the quest screen can be changed with a resource pack. Themes are color palettes, and /eq theme new opens a color picker to make one. For bigger changes there are LSS stylesheets, which work a lot like CSS, and XML layouts you can build in an in-game editor. With /eq screen watch on, saving a file reloads the screen right away.

The mod comes with four complete designs to start from. One of them is this star chart.

Other things it does

  • Pinned quests on the HUD, toasts and a reward inbox
  • Team quests with FTB Teams
  • KubeJS events, custom tasks and rewards
  • Recipe lookups with JEI, EMI or REI
  • Waypoints for JourneyMap, FTB Chunks and Xaero's Minimap
