About this project

What does Mo' Creatures Extended add?

BE SURE TO CHECK 'REGARDING PORTS AND BACKPORTS' BELOW INSTEAD OF ASKING FOR OTHER VERSIONS DIRECTLY!

About Mo‘ Creatures

Mo‘ Creatures is a mod created by DrZhark. It was created on November 17, 2010. A mod which adds over 80 new mobs to your game, it provides many new animal and monster mobs, as well as the ability to tame and ride some. December 2019, original development was discontinued and the mod went open source.

Permission by DrZhark concerning continuations of his work:

About Mo‘ Creatures Extended

Mo‘ Creatures Extended stands for continued maintenance of the mod exclusively for Minecraft 1.12.2 and is officially endorsed by DrZhark. It‘s completely dependency-free, a lot of the codebase is cleaned up and most apparent bugs are fixed. Further, this means Custom Mob Spawner is no longer needed as we emulated its behavior with the vanilla spawner, greatly enhancing compatibility with other mods in the process.

Regarding ports and backports

This mod is going to stay on 1.12.2, there are no plans for porting from our side! Porting a massive mod like this frequently is an extremely time-consuming endeavor and we are far more interested in further polishing the mod and providing more content for players to enjoy. Any port or backport requests will be completely ignored!

As DrZhark originally licensed Mo' Creatures as GNU General Public License v3, unofficial ports and backports may happen as long as the license is kept the same and proper credit is given to the people who have worked on this project in the description. Bugs regarding unofficial ports and backports are completely unsupported by us and should be reported to the authors of those projects instead.

Mo' Creatures: Nostalgia Edition is currently the most active unofficial port of this continuation and is available in 1.16.5 and 1.20.1+.

List of most notable changes so far:

  • Removed all dependencies, spawning is revamped and handled entirely with vanilla means
  • Cleaned up codebase, adjusted/removed legacy code
  • Optimized performance through faster data structures
  • Overhauled config files with options for easy spawning customization and adjusted values to reasonable defaults
  • Tons of fixes, including resources, language files, and hitboxes
  • A variety of new features that strive to be in the spirit of the original mod, as well as restoration of old ideas and cut content
  • Tweaks and quality of life changes, such as reworked AI and improved breeding
  • New and improved Wyvern Lair dimension (currently still in progress)
  • Legacy models and textures returning from very old versions as config options

Mod Integration:

  • Construct's Armory - Armor Materials and Armor Traits
  • Industrial Foregoing - Recipes
  • Just Enough Resources - Support for Mo' Creatures mobs
  • Morph - Support for Mo' Creatures mobs
  • Thaumcraft - Aspects
  • Thermal Expansion - Recipes
  • Tinkers' Construct - Tool Materials and Tool Traits

NOTICE - If you‘re updating from the old Mo‘ Creatures:

  • Remove Custom Mob Spawner
  • Delete your MoCreatures config folder

Commonly reported issues

If you are experiencing issues with spawning, please try the following options before reporting or leaving a comment about it:

  1. Adjust the frequency values inside MoCreatures.cfg.

  2. Utilize the Spawn Caps tweak in Universal Tweaks to further increase entity spawn caps. See Increasing spawn caps in the spoiler below this one for more info.

  3. If you are playing with other mods that add entities and they are not spawning, you will most likely have to adjust their weights using a mod like BiomeTweaker because of how vanilla's weight system works.

  4. Be sure to mess around with the World Gen Spawning Creatures and World Gen Spawning Water Creatures config options inside MoCSettings.cfg.

If you are experiencing issues with item drops such as hearts or eggs:

Item drops were overhauled in Extended, hearts and eggs were made to be rarer drops rather than dropping almost always. Because of these changes, it will be confusing if you played with the original Mo' Creatures mod. It is recommended to use Just Enough Resources to see drop rates and GroovyScript or LootTweaker to adjust the loot tables to your liking. If you are absolutely sure there is an issue, do report it on our GitHub and it will be looked at.

Increasing spawn caps

To improve the dynamic feeling of Mo‘ Creatures Extended even further, you can utilize the Spawn Caps tweak from Universal Tweaks to match the respawn behavior from Custom Mob Spawner as follows:

Special thanks

  • DrZhark - Open sourcing the mod to let others continue the mod's legacy, officially endorsing our continuation, and giving up full permission to continue DrZhark's Magic Carpet Mod (will be implemented in the future)
  • Daveyx0 - Giving us permission to fork the filch lizard creature from Primitive Mobs as a special addition for Hexxit II and Tekkit SMP
  • xJon - Providing general QA and for creating Hexxit II and Tekkit SMP, official Technic modpacks that have this mod prominently featured on
  • MCThe_Paragon (Malcolm Riley) - Providing a texture repository with excellent textures for mods to use
  • Rozmir - Thaumcraft aspects that were carried over from their script
  • Foreck - Revamped shark model (with some tweaks)
  • Various translators who made this mod more accessible to players around the world and others who have provided small but welcome contributions such as textures
