Quick answer
Which Window Display release should I use?
Window Display 1.0.1 targets 1.22.0, 1.22.1, 1.22.2. It must be installed on the client. Installation on the dedicated server is optional. All 2 required mods have matching files.
Where it goes
Is Window Display required on the client, server, or both?
It must be installed on the client. Installation on the dedicated server is optional.
This release supports both sides, but the source does not require it on the server.
What else does Window Display 1.0.1 need?
1.0.1. Change the file and its required mods may change too.
Install Attribute Rendering Library, Window Display Lib first. We found matching files for this game-version and loader setup.
We only count dependency files that match this setup. A file for another loader does not fill the gap.
Before you install it
Add Window Display without breaking your instance.

Patches is what gives candles their flame, sizes a lot of vanilla and modded items properly, and adds the recipes that convert old windows across.
What You Get
- •Windows that open, with proper animation, and that seal the room when shut - so you do have to close them in winter.
- •A sill you can put things on. Free placement rather than fixed slots, so you decide where each item goes and which way it faces.
- •Edge versions of everything. Every window can be flipped to sit on the other side of the wall with a wrench, no crafting needed - and edge windows are twice as deep, so they take bigger things.
- •Tall windows, two and three blocks high, that place and break as one piece and open together.
- •Rain on the glass, scaling with the actual weather.
- •A lantern on the sill lights the room, at its own colour and brightness. Add the Patches mod and candles and lamps keep their flame burning too.
- •14 woods and 11 glass colours, including bdtree and Vanilla Varnished woods if you run those.
The Windows
Single Block
- •Casement Window – swings open from the centre, one pane each side
- •Left Opening Window and Right Opening Window – single pane hinged on one side
- •Awning Window – hinged at the top, swings outward
- •Hopper Window – hinged at the bottom
- •Sash Window – slides rather than swings
- •Display Unit Window – an awning with a display flap and a second surface, so it holds more
- •Shutter – wooden, no glass, opens as a pair
- •Custom Window – a blank block you place a chiselled block into, so you can make any design you like. Full collision, four planks to craft
Tall
Built by stacking two or three finished short windows in the grid. The whole thing goes down from one item, breaks as one, and opens together.
- •Tall Casement Window, Tall Left Opening Window and Tall Right Opening Window – each in a 2 high and a 3 high version
- •Tall Sash Window and Tall Awning Window – 2 high
Vanilla Pane Display
The game's own glass pane, made usable. Build it from a vanilla pane or from scratch with a glass slab.
- •Vanilla Style Pane – the plain pane
- •Vanilla Style Pane with Display Unit – the same with a display unit under it
- •Plank Window – solid wood instead of glass
- •Wattle Style Window – converts straight from vanilla wattle and back again
Edge Versions & Swapping
Hold Sprint and right click the frame with a wrench. No crafting, no breaking anything, and it works on a whole tall window at once. It refuses if there is anything on the sill, so you cannot lose your things to it.
An edge window mounts on the other side of the wall - and because it is twice as deep, it takes items an ordinary sill will not, like folded clothing or a backpack.
Straight there and back
Most styles flip between the normal and the edge-mounted version and straight back again. An edge version keeps its window's name, so you will not find a separate entry for it anywhere - the wrench is the only way to get one:
- •Casement Window
- •Awning Window
- •Hopper Window
- •Sash Window
- •Display Unit Window
- •Shutter
- •Vanilla Style Pane
- •Vanilla Style Pane with Display Unit
- •Plank Window
- •Tall Casement Window, Tall Sash Window and Tall Awning Window
Left and right go round a loop
The left and right windows take four steps instead of two, which means the wrench mirrors them as well as moving them to the edge - so you never have to break one and craft the other:
Left Opening Window → its edge version → Right Opening Window → its edge version → back to the start
The tall left and right windows work exactly the same way, in both the 2 high and 3 high versions. Every segment of a tall window swaps together, so you can never end up with one half facing the wrong way.
Crafting
- •Windows take a glass slab rather than a whole glass block, so they cost half the glass the old mod's did. One recipe covers all 11 vanilla glass colours.
- •Leaded windows two ways – a plain glass slab plus a lead ingot, or straight from a vanilla leaded pane. Either orientation of pane works.
- •Tall windows stack two or three finished short ones. No new ingredients, and you get one item back that places the whole thing.
- •No edge recipes – edge versions come from the wrench, so there is nothing extra to make.
- •bdtree and Vanilla Varnished woods are craftable if you have those mods installed.
- •The creative tabs show leaded, plain, quartz to keep them a sensible size, but every colour is craftable whether it is listed or not.
Known Issues
- •Big items only fit edge windows. Anything deeper than about 6 voxels - folded clothing, a backpack - has nowhere valid to sit on an ordinary sill, because items are centred where you click and have to fit entirely inside. Flip the window to its edge version and it goes on fine.
- •No corner window. The old mod had one and it has not been remade yet. If you convert an old corner window it becomes a casement.
- •You cannot chisel a shelf into the custom window. Adding one grows the block's bounding box and re-centres the whole thing, which slides the pane off the face you lined it up with. That is how the game measures chiselled blocks, not something this mod can work around.
- •A bright light flickers for a moment when the window changes - placing or taking something, turning an item, or opening a pane. When a light emitting item goes on the sill the window becomes the light source, and any change makes the game rebuild that light from scratch rather than updating it. The bigger the light the more you see it; a candle does not show it at all. This is the vanilla lighting, not the mod - but Lumos by tehtelev replaces that system and removes it completely, with before and after clips below.
